Couchbase Capella bills you for the size and number of clusters in your organization.

All billing in Capella takes place at the organization level. Your billing settings apply to all projects and clusters in your organization.

To configure billing settings for your organization, you must have the Organization Owner role.

      How Couchbase Calculates Your Bill

Couchbase charges by the clock hour for Capella clusters. It bases this hourly rate on:

      • The cluster size, determined by the number of logical cores and the amount of RAM.

      • The cluster support plan.

Your cluster becomes billable after it successfully deploys and is in a running state. You’re billed for each clock hour that your cluster runs. For example, if your cluster starts at 10:30 and stops at 11:30 on the same day, you’re billed for two hours because the cluster ran during two clock hours.

You can change a clusters size or change its Support Plan after its deployment. The hourly rate for that cluster increases or decreases based on your changes.

You can change your cluster’s size or plan after you deploy it. The hourly rate for that cluster increases or decreases based on your changes.

      Couchbase calculates cluster charges daily.

Any hourly charges for the current day are reflected in your organization’s balance on the next calendar day. Monthly usage periods for each calendar month include daily usage.

Your usage and payment depend on how you pay for Couchbase Capella Credits:

      • With on-demand payment, Couchbase bills your organization for each monthly usage period.

      • With up-front payment, Couchbase deducts your organization’s cluster charges from the remaining credit balance each day.

If you choose up-front payments, Couchbase charges you after each calendar day. Your monthly usage periods are used for reporting purposes only, unless you run out of pre-paid Couchbase Capella Credits.

If you run out of credits, you can choose to pay on-demand and receive a bill for any on-demand usage that happened during a monthly usage period. You must pay this bill in arrears.

      Up-Front Payments

In the Capella UI, Couchbase Capella Credits are called pre-paid credits.

When you purchase Couchbase Capella Credits up-front, they’re deposited in your organization’s account to give you a positive credit balance. Your credit balance updates once every calendar day and reflects the previous day’s cumulative usage across all clusters in your organization.

You must purchase and deposit more credits into your organization’s account before your credit balance reaches 0. Your credits expire otherwise.

Your organization’s billing contact receives an invoice for the purchased credits based on the currency equivalent outlined in your purchase agreement.

      On-Demand Payments

When you purchase Couchbase Capella Credits on-demand, your organization does not have to maintain a positive credit balance. Instead, your organization is billed in arrears based on the credits you used in the previous calendar month.

You can review your previous month’s usage at the start of each new calendar month.

Your organization’s billing contact receives an invoice for your usage based on the currency equivalent outlined in your purchase agreement.
